The ADD Centre® - Adults and Children
A. Basic Program:
1.) ASSESSMENT: (approximately 3.5 hours + extra time if a 19 Channel Assessment is needed )
- Interview and
history taking. Review of previous assessments,
if any.
◦ Continuous Performance Tests: Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA) & Intermediate Visual Auditory continuous performance test (IVA)
◦ EEG Assessment to investigate brain wave patterns associated with concentration and attention
◦ Abbreviated Training Session
◦ Questionnaires and Behaviour Check-lists
◦ Adults require additional “stress-test” for Psychophysiological Variables (approximately 1 hour)
- Intelligence
-WISC-IV / WAIS-III;
◦ Academic screening of reading, spelling and arithmetic - WRAT3
◦ Other tests as needed: LET-II (auditory & visual memory), Bender-Gestalt, Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, Tower of London, Raven’s Progressive Matrices or Matrix Analogies Test
- 50 minute
sessions involving steps A to D below. The
goal is Optimal Performance for each
individual. Forty to sixty sessions should
achieve lasting results in most cases.
A: RELAXED and ALERT MENTAL STATE:
- Regulation of
EDR (alertness level) and skin temperature using
Biofeedback with respiration, pulse, muscle
tension, RSA, as required.
B: FOCUSED CONCENTRATION using Neurofeedback:
- Reduction in
Theta Amplitude & Variability Theta brainwave
activity is a marker for ADD, associated with
“tuning out”.
- Increase SMR
& Beta activity in order to be calm and
focused.
• Goal: to gain a more flexible brain and learn self regulation of individual brain wave states. Be able to remain relaxed, alert and focused without fidgeting.
- Active Learning
Strategies – learning how to learn
• Strategies for Listening, Reading, Remembering
• Strategies for Written and Verbal Presentations
• Strategies for Mathematics
- Organization
skills and time management: using a
planner/agenda
• Mnemonic devices and study skills
- These additional
exercises, done without neurofeedback, help
with special learning needs. Captain’s Log is a
computerized program that trains 21 cognitive
skills including auditory and visual attention
(focused, selective, sustained, flexible and
simultaneous), working memory (holding
information in mind while simultaneously
processing it), visual and auditory information
processing (speed, perception, classification,
sequencing, tracking), fine motor skills (speed
and control) and response inhibition. LEXIA is a
programme for reading skills.
4.) Progress testing: after 40 sessions. This is done with a verbal report at NO CHARGE. ******(If a written report is requested there will be a fee.)******
